Lodging in Tuscany: bed and breakfast Cortona

“RUGAPIANA” Palace takes its name from the street “Rugapiana” that means “flat street”. Rugapiana is the only flat street that can be found in the historical centre of Cortona.
In the past, the word “Ruga” was used to describe a street with shops, labs and houses.
Today “Rugapiana” is the main street, closed to traffic of this Etruscan town that offers tourists the chance to go back into the past centuries. Everything in Cortona is reminiscent of the Etruscan and medieval times, and also the Renaissance.

“Rugapiana” is the most popular (the most frequented) road for both Cortona’s inhabitants and tourists who come to visit this medieval jewel surrounded by its Etruscan walls and lying on a hill overlooking the valley and the lake Trasimeno. In the middle of this road an ancient palace has been skilfully restored into apartments with a kitchen and rooms with a bathroom. Every apartment maintains the ancient local stone wall, fired brick floors and wooden beamed floors, respecting the architecture of the past. Every apartment is furnished with antique pieces of furniture, whereas the kitchens and bathrooms are modern and comfortable.
The Palace is in the ideal location for guests who want to visit the historical town centre by walking along its Etruscan streets, churches and museums or driving (parking lots are just 100 meters away from the centre) to the nearest art towns such as Montepulciano, Siena, Perugia, Assisi, Trasimeno Lake and its islands.

From the highway A1 take the exit Valdichiana. After the toll take the sideway Siena-Perugia, in the direction of Perugia. After driving for 10 km take the exit for Cortona. Drive along the provincial road towards Cortona. You will get to a small town called Camucia. Cortona is 5 km away, on top of a hill. If you want to reach Cortona by train, you’ll have to get off at the Camucia train station; from there you can choose to catch a bus or a taxi that will take you to Cortona.

From Cortona you may easily reach some of the most famous art towns such as Florence (100 km), Arezzo (25 km), Siena (50 km), Perugia (40 km), Assisi (60 km), Spoleto (70 km) Gubbio (50 km), and Mount Amiata (40 km).
