In San Quirico D'Orcia… originally designed rooms “with a view“ - recently refurbished as “works of art“ dedicated to hospitality. The interior of “Casa Lemmi“… originally Norman and dating back to the beginning of the last millennium, facing the Collegiata Church on one side and Mount Amiata on the other.
Directly in front of the Collegiata Church of San Quirico D’Orcia stands “Casa Lemmi”, inhabited for over a millennium and originally Norman, once the refuge of the Knights Templar, Imperial residence, a guest house, convent, fortified house, and for at least three hundred years, the home of the owner of a nearby estate in the Val D’Orcia.
In a separate wing, once used for agricultural purposes, there are now guest rooms. The rooms open off a stairwell which rises towards a bright, sunny dome. The stairwell was originally Romanesque but has been altered many times over the course of time until it gained its present appearance in the nineteenth century. The exterior, like secret eyes, looks out at the noteworthy monuments of San Quirico and the Val D’Orcia.
There are two double rooms, a triple suite, and three other suites, all distinguished by their décor and furniture. In the nineteenth century these rooms were part of the family home. Today they are equipped with every modern comfort and convenience: telephone, minibar, safe, satellite television, internet connection, bathroom with shower or bath, hairdryer, and heating and air conditioning. The rooms are spacious and pleasant, permitting the guest to feel quite at home. An abundant breakfast, served in the garden or in the Norman room, facing the west door of the Collegiata, is included.
Guests can park in the immediate vicinity of “Casa Lemmi”. The appropriate parking permit will be forwarded by email.
In “Casa Lemmi” the present is hidden in the up-to-date technological facilities, but its fascination is the medieval atmosphere which it retains, making this a special place for residents who want to be away from the crowd. While staying at “Casa Lemmi” guests can spend from two to five or even seven days wandering through a rich array of antiquities, culture, beauty, tastes, and natural environments unspoilt by man, all within a radius of 100 kilometers, before returning to rest in the atmosphere of “Casa Lemmi”.
Through the window, the guest’s eye is first attracted by the twelfth century Collegiata Church and then by the view of Mount Amiata which dominates one side of the Val D’Orcia, recently World Heritage listed by UNESCO, and on the other side, towards the Maremma and the sea where Mount Argentario towers over a landscape of Mediterranean scrubland.
The presence of numerous thermal springs adds further variety to the landscape.
Within the walls of “Casa Lemmi”, antiquity, comfort and convenience together weave a subtle magic which remains forever in the memory of the visitor, tempting them to return again and again.
In Palazzo Lemmi, until recently the home of the owners, the original guest rooms, two large suites, the “Imperial” and the “Collegiata” on one side and a double room called the “Blue room” on the other, open off a large staircase.
The “Imperial” suite has a balcony overlooking the Collegiata Church and a large travertine marble fireplace in Romanesque-Gothic style like the church outside. The Emperor Frederick I (Barbarossa) may have slept in this room, whence it derives its name.
The “Collegiata” suite looks down on both the Collegiata Church and Palazzo Chigi, giving the impression of a view of these buildings from above.
The double room which looks straight out at Monte Amiata is called the “Blue” room, for the colour of the décor resembles the colour of the mountain on a sunny day.
Breakfast is included in the price
