 View GalleryLodging in Tuscany: 4 star hotel Montaione Palazzo Mannaioni is situated in the historic centre of Montaione , a small medieval hamlet on top of a hill, 341 metres above sea level, about 50 kms away from the most important art cities in Tuscany such as Florence, Siena and Pisa and just a few kilometres away from San Gimignano and Volterra.
The surrounding territory offers glimpses of rare and pure beauty: rows of vines, thick olive groves, secular chestnut trees and holm-oak trees and clay hills which reflect the changing colours of the seasons.
Palazzo Mannaioni bears the name of the family a rich and powerful family from Montaione which follows the history of the Commune for a good four centuries until a few decades ago with the passing away of the last heir Lina.
This family played an important role in Montaione: they were notaries, priors, administrators, land owners and masters in the craft of glass-making, as is witnessed in their coat of arms on the door of the palace. With the birth of the Grand Duchy of Tuscany, with the Medici family first and the Lorena later, the walls of the Castle were not considered important because there was no fear of enemy sieges.
Thus even the building changed in the 19 th century, took its present shape with this ring outside the medieval walls. In the new space a garden was created with paths, holm-oak trees for shade, the lemon green-house and the well. It is still possible to see the communication trenches of the guards on the top of the walls faced now by splendid refurbished rooms .
The Family played such an important role in the life of the Comune that the former Mayor Rino Salvestrini, a historian with a profound knowledge of Montaione and its history, has written a book about the family: “I Mannaioni ed il loro palazzo”
As from 1998, the palace, which was in complete shambles, has been transformed into a prestigious 4 Star Hotel thanks to investments of a family from Montaione and to the careful restorations carried out by the craftsmen of Montaione. Today, the family, already owner of the splendid estate in Santo Stefano, has brought the hotel and the prestigious restaurant back to their ancient splendours.
The Hotel has two types of rooms distributed upon 3 floors CLASSIC e JUNIOR SUITE.
Classic: Elegant and comfortable rooms, with satellite TV, direct telephone line, air conditioning, safe and hair-drier in the bathroom. Some are with a bath and others are with a shower.
Junior Suite: Five elegant and comfortable rooms with terrace with view on the pool and on the Italian garden; three of these have double level balconies, all equipped with Satellite TV, direct telephone lines, air conditioning, safe, and hair-dryer in the bathroom.
Suite: The most luxurious type of room in the Hotel; they are two, with two different type of furnishings; one has beams and floor of terra-cotta bricks; big room with double bed, little living room with sofa bed and 2 bathrooms. The other one is decorated with unique fresco and with hard-wood floor; it is composed by two separate rooms without door: in the bigger one there is a double bed and a bathroom while in the other there is a little living room with sofa bed. Both are equipped with Flat TV Sat, telephone, air conditioning, safe and hair drier.

Palazzo Mannaioni is the ideal place where to organize any kind of meeting, from high-level meetings reserved to a few people, to symposiums with up to a maximum of 100 people.
In fact, Palazzo Mannaioni has two halls, "Raffaello", seating a maximum of 100 people arranged in an audience and 40 in a semi-circle and " Brunelleschi", seating a maximum of 16 people arranged in an audience or round a single table. ‘Raffaello' is perfectly amplified equipped with a screen, microphones, video-projector, flip-board, stationery, telephone line.
Our Restaurant De' Mannaioni is able to organize gala dinners, light lunches, business snacks, informal dinners, coffee breaks so as to optimize, together with the American Bar with direct access to the two halls, the offer of refreshments during the meetings.
Our Restaurant De' Mannaioni created from the old oil mill, leaves the first-time visitor astounded at the sight of the marvellous crossed vaults in red brick original of the 14th century in a complex and harmonious pattern covering the trapezium-shaped restaurant with central columns.
Next to the restaurant we find the the old cellar dug out from the rock, also called "tunnel of love" where, as the legend goes, a family member had constructed this jewel of rare beauty in order to reach his loved one far away from prying eyes.
Today the still intact cellar is enhanced by an exclusive winery where it is possible to taste high quality wines or dine in complete intimacy. The dishes which can be appreciated are those of the typical Tuscan cuisine and local delicacies such as mushrooms and the famous white Truffle of Montaione carefully reworked by our chefs. A selection of wines chosen by our sommelier accompany our culinary specialities. Breakfast at the hotel is enriched by the presence of typical local sweets, well prepared by our chefs. |
